2025年10月20日～24日に、パナマで開催された生物多様性条約第27 回科学技術助言補助機関会合（CBD-SBSTTA27）にインターンとして参加しました。
国際会議について考えることすらも少なかった私ですが、現場に身を置いてみることで多くの気づきを得ました。
私は渡航前、当会議を「参加国が具体的なアイデアを出し合う場」だと想像していましたが、実態は「準備された文書に対して各国が意見を表明する場」でした。議論の焦点は、文書の内容以上に単語や言葉のニュアンスにおかれ、たった一つの表現をめぐり1時間以上議論が続いたこともありました。
また、本会合は科学技術助言が目的であるにもかかわらず、政治的な立場を元とした交渉が目立ちました。先進国と新興国及び途上国、あるいは国家とNGOの意見の相違は大きく、議論は最終日の23時まで続けられました。
これまでなんとなく字面だけを追っていた条約が、多様なステークホルダーによる厳密かつ徹底的な議論に基づき完成するものだと知り、その一文一文の重みや価値を実感する体験でした。国際条約の実現を現実に落とし込む現場に飛び込み、その実態を肌で体感できた今回のインターンシップは、私にかけがえのない学びを与えてくれました。このような貴重な機会を頂けたことに深く感謝いたします。

世界自然保護会議（2025年10月9日～15日）への参加は、自然保護の最前線を直接学ぶ機会となりました。各国政府や国際機関、企業、NGO、若者などが真剣に議論を交わす様子を目にし、自然保護が世界規模の協働によって進められていることを強く実感しました。
特に印象深かったこととして、第一に、気候変動や生物多様性の危機に対し、「保全」と「経済」を対立ではなく統合すべきテーマとして扱う議論が主流となっていた点です。自然を守りながら経済を動かす仕組みづくりが、世代を超えて持続可能な未来の鍵となると理解しました。
第二に、若者の参画が非常に盛んであり、気候変動等の影響を最も受ける若い世代での声が政策議論に反映されている場をみると、日本との意識の差を強く感じました。インターンシップでは、IUCN-Jの国内向け報告書の作成、各会合の内容を記録し自分の意見をまとめる業務を担当し、国際会議の情報発信に携わったことは大きな学びとなりました。
また、ブース対応等を通じ、海外の若者が自らの地域課題を力強く発信する姿に触れ、私自身も日本の自然保護の現状等を積極的に外へ伝えていく必要性を認識しました。人生の大きな転機となる機会を提供いただいたIUCN日本委員会ならびに自然保護寄附講座に感謝いたします。

I was privileged to attend the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) 2025 in Abu Dhabi with IUCN-J. I sincerely thank the University of Tsukuba’s CPNC and IUCN-J for this invaluable, eye-opening opportunity. Experiencing the immense scale and operational depth of this major international conservation conference was an unforgettable highlight.
The WCC was an impressive event encompassing summits, forums, exhibitions, and the Members' Assembly, in which I actively participated. As a young scholar, I attended the Youth Summit to hear the global conservation ambitions of my peers. Leveraging my expertise in meteorology, I focused on sessions concerning Climate Change and Nature Conservation, gaining significant insight. As part of the Japanese delegation, I actively supported sessions hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment on OECM and the Red List. I also contributed to promoting the upcoming Global Nature Positive Summit in Kumamoto. Given my background, I also learned from discussions on biodiversity conservation in arid regions and grasslands. Furthermore, I helped present Japan’s conservation achievements at the exhibition booth and witnessed key governance processes like motion adoption at the Members' Assembly.
This experience expanded my knowledge base and provided a platform for deep exchange with global experts and young professionals. Contributing to the presentation of Japan's conservation efforts was a tremendous step in my professional growth. I am committed to continued participation in international forums to bring back valuable insights and experience to both IUCN-J and CPNC.

The World Congress of Biosphere Reserves is held every 10 years, and in 2025, the 5th WCBR was convened in Hangzhou, China, from September 22nd to 26th. The World Network of more than 2,000 stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and conservationists, came together to identify priorities, strengthen collaboration, and define a Global Action Plan for the future of Biosphere Reserves. Their discussions focused on the WCBR's contribution to the global biodiversity and SDGs.
This year, as an intern of IUCN-J, I had a chance to go with and learn from all stakeholders on how they are contributing to Biosphere Reserves practically. The scientists use their academic, technological knowledge to conduct scientific research (conducting interdisciplinary research), technical application (monitoring and evaluating the impact of natural disasters and human activities), capacity building (organizing training workshops), and international exchange. While the private company sectors are also joining through material innovation research and producing eco-friendly products. In the field trip visit to Tianmushan-Qingliangfeng Biosphere Reserves, I could see young people can make money and sell products via e-commerce right in the Biosphere Reserves sites. Thus, this congress opened my mind to different aspects of how everyone can contribute to the Biosphere Reserve, then protect nature.
Moreover, this internship with IUCN-J was providing me with many skills on how to promote a conference, nature conservation event on social media, and how to write a good international conference report. I would like to thank IUCN-J and CPNC for providing me with this opportunity.

2025年3月から5月までの3か月間、私はUNESCOナイロビ事務所文化部でインターンしました。主な業務は、アフリカ地域における文化遺産保護のプロジェクト補助で、会議準備・運営、各国専門家との連絡調整など、多岐にわたりました。
特に印象深かったのは、2025年の「アフリカにおける遺産の真正性国際会議」に向けたナイロビ成果文書の整理に関わったことです。ドラフト会議に同席し、各国・各コミュニティが抱く“真正性”の価値観と向き合いながら文書に反映する作業は、文化遺産の多様性を理解する貴重な経験となりました。作業を進める中で実感したのは、遺産の価値は専門家だけでなく、その土地に暮らす人々の歴史・記憶・日常実践によって支えられており、真正性の判断にも彼らの語りや伝承が欠かせません。また、アフリカの多くの遺産では、文化と自然が分かちがたく結びついていることも強く感じました。森、聖地、景観など、自然環境そのものが無形文化と連動しており、両者を不可分に捉える重要性を学びました。
ナイロビでの3か月は、遺産を「物」だけでなく「人々の営み」として理解する視点を深める貴重な機会となりました。この経験は、今後文化遺産の保護に携わるうえで大きな基盤となると感じています。
